Decision Making Process is the process of making choices. Decisions depend on a person’s beliefs, values and experiences. So decisions guides ones actions. Business owners, Managers and people in a leading position, make critical decisions ranging from day-to-day operational issues to long-range strategic planning. To be a good leader or a good manager one must poses good decision making skills. This decision making process for a MBA aspirant starts right from the time he starts to think about the B-school that he wants to end up in.

Choosing to do MBA is a big step. Individuals usually join a B-school with a desire to make career advancement, to switch over to another industry or to gain knowledge about starting their own business. But this decision requires time, financial commitment, and potentially a career break if you study full-time.

Searching for top B-school is an important step in the application process. If this process is done right all other efforts fall into place. Here are few important criteria that every MBA aspirants must look into before choosing a B-school:

MBA GOALS: Different MBA aspirants have different goals. Not all would want to start a business. Defining a goal becomes vita. For instance, if you want to land up in financial sector after completing your MBA, choosing a B-school that gives little scope in the financial sector is not a wise choice. Never change your goals for fitting into a particular B-school. Rather having strong goals will help you in your journey.

 INSTITUTE REPUTATION: According to the rolling survey conducted by Rollins College taking 77 full time MBA students, the number one criteria that a student sees before choosing a B-school is its image and reputation. Reputation of an institute can be weighed using the alumni feedback, number of years of its operation and so on. But taking your decision entirely based on ranking is also dangerous because different ranking have different methodology.

APPROVAL & AFFILIATIONS: Institutes that offer an MBA must be approved by AICTE. There are certain institutes that come under universities and some that are autonomous. Each of these criteria has its own pros and cons which need to be weighed.

 QUALITY OF TEACHING: It is important to check if the institute selected has qualified full time teaching faculty to guide the students on regular basis as well as visiting staffs to guide the students on a specific area.

 COST INVOLVED: This is may be the most important and critical factor that one must considers. In the decision making process this can be considered one of the primary points, but it must be made sure that this does not affect ones decision. If an institute has good ROI even if it costs higher it can be considered since it has a good track record.

 SALARY AFTER MBA: Post MBA salary and increase in salary are two important points that must be considered. If an institute has good placement records and the quality of the placements is also good then that institute should be considered.

 INDUSTRIAL CONNECTION: Apart from the theoretical knowledge that you gain from an MBA program it is important to understand the real world. So an institute that gives exposures to real world industries helps you gain lot of experience.

 INTERNATIONAL EXPOSURE: Looking for institutes with international exchange programs has lot of advantages because it gives you the opportunity to build a career abroad.

In short , it can be said that in order to become a dynamic leader or manager in this real  world you are required to put in a lot of effort right from the time you decide to select a B-school that you want to be associated with. So make a wise choice to become a wise leader.
